Failing the test: student driver crashes into Penn Hills driver's license center while learning to drive

Image
(Credit: KDKA) Some of these missives practically write themselves. This is one. A student driver in Penn Hills managed to crash their car into the Penn Hills Driver's License Center on the evening of January 9, a Thursday. The crash caused some damage to the building's windows and exterior, but the car did not fully enter the building. No one was hurt.  Still, here's some advice from an old pro to all of the student drivers in the greater Pittsburgh area: crashing your car into the location of the folks who will decide whether or not you are granted a license is bad for your chances of getting a license.  Word to the wise. The crash occurred on Friday, February 19, on Brighton Road in the city's Northside, in the early morning hours.  The woman reportedly had hit a parked vehicle, lost control and drove her car into the building. She was taken to the hospital, but the building appears to have suffered more serious injuries than she did. She was discharged with no serious injuries, but that house looks FUBAR.

Upping the ante: Pittsburgh PD cruiser crashes into Northside home

Image
(Photo Credit: KDKA) As this blog showcases, an unusual number of cars crash into houses and other buildings here in Pittsburgh. But it isn't everyday that the car crashing into a house is a Pittsburgh PD cruiser. (!) Well, it happened on the city's Northside on February 14th. Valentine's Day probably wasn't so sweet for the officer who cranged his SUV into the side of a house. The officer was taken to the hospital following the crash, which happened along Milroy Street around 6:30 a.m. when the officer was responding to a collision in Zone 1. For more on the incident, see CBS Pittsburgh's report .

Garbage truck smashes into Baden home

Image
This time, it wasn't a car crashing into a house in Pittsburgh. It was a garbage truck.  Wtf? It happened around 6:20 A.M. on Thursday, February 11, 2021. The roads were wintery, but don't appear treacherous in the photo above. Baden police chief David Christner reportedly said the truck was unable to stop as it careened down Wilson Street and crossed Berry before slamming into the house, hitting its porch and living room. The entire cab of the garbage truck smashed through the front of the house and ended up in a sleeping family of five's living room. Here's a link to the TribLive story on the crash.
